When one of my patients came to see me and said "I don’t mind getting old, I just don’t want to look like I mind." She was referring to the frown lines between her eyes that made her look angry all the time.

We discussed a medical procedure called Botox, which is a safe and effective treatment for "expression" lines. This is a non-surgical procedure that temporarily blocks the nerve impulse to the muscle, thereby relaxing the muscles that are responsible for the facial wrinkles. This treatment softens and in some cases virtually flattens the wrinkle. It is particularly effective for the lines of the upper portion of the face, such as, frown lines, crows feet, and horizontal forehead lines. The treatment involves injecting a very dilute dose of the drug called Botox into the muscle responsible for the expression line. The treatment lasts between two to six months.
